So what?
The data shows how large footprint (new build) sites which enable multiple assets to be worked on concurrently enable significant efficiencies. These should be targeted when planning for productive projects.
HMP Five Wells and Millsike are both industry leading at 110m2/day and 81.3m2/day respectively.
Warehouses (and defence) achieve higher outputs due to the large portal frame nature of warehouses and hangars (large GIFA with minimal fitout).
The lowest outputs are due to projects which have significant enabling works, ground works, demolition or refurbishment.
If we exclude from our figures one highly industrialised major defence project (that included 1,600 single living accommodation bedrooms), the defence sector average falls to 15.70 m²/day.
This highlights that defence projects vary considerably in their potential for industrialisation: repetitive new-build accommodation supports efficient delivery, while existing-estate works can constrain productivity.
