Resident liaison
Given the disruptive nature of building safety works, residents can understandably be resistant to engaging with contractors and sub-contractors.
Speakers highlighted that when residents are properly informed and engaged, they overwhelmingly support the works. Transparent communication, face-to-face engagement, resident-centric social value programmes, and dedicated liaison roles were identified as critical success factors.
“We’ve been amazed at how positively residents have responded. If you communicate clearly, people want to come on that journey.”
Rick Roberts Way Client: Riverside HousingKier Places delivered a major cladding remediation project in an occupied residential housing estate in East London.
The project was awarded a silver Considerate Constructors Award due to creating a lasting, positive legacy. It achieved a score of 45/45 on client satisfaction, which is in the top 10% in the UK, for the effective approach to resident communication, and working to Kier's values: ‘Collaborative, Trusted, Focused.’

Early involvement in planning the journey
As experts at working in live environments, we understand the different requirements needed to work in local communities. This is also where a properly considered social value strategy comes in to its own - recognising that residents have different priorities and responding to those. These projects are about taking residents on the journey - helping them understand that we're here to make their buildings more safe, whilst leaving a positive lasting legacy."
